# Vavuniya Mica Sites
## Overview
Carbonatik is pleased to announce the exploration of a promising mica deposit in the Vavuniya area of Sri Lanka. This extensive 200-acre site, located 7km from Vavuniya town, shows significant potential for high-quality mica extraction.
## Terrain
- Reserved forest area within the Wanni complex
## Geological Highlights
- Primary rock type: Charnockite biotite Gneiss
- Structure: Northeast to Southwest strike with a nearly vertical dip towards Southeast
## Deposit Characteristics
Our initial field observations reveal:
1. A layer of black topsoil (0-2 meters)
2. Exposed mica mineral (below 2 meters)
3. Biotite mica occurring as sheet deposits associated with gneissic rock
4. Deposit thickness: Approximately 15 to 30 meters
5. Known depth: Exceeding 30 meters (based on existing mine data)
## Mica Quality
Preliminary assessments suggest high-quality biotite mica suitable for various industrial applications. Further analysis will determine specific grades and potential uses.
## Current Activity
Small-scale manual mining operations are currently active in the area, confirming the site's potential for mica extraction.
## Next Steps
To fully evaluate the economic viability of this site, Carbonatik plans to:
1. Conduct detailed geological mapping across the entire 200-acre area
2. Perform comprehensive geophysical surveys
3. Implement a strategic drilling program
These steps will help us determine the full extent of the mica deposit and its potential for large-scale commercial development.
## Potential
Based on our initial observations and the area's geological conditions, we believe there's a strong possibility that a significant portion of the forest area contains valuable mica deposits. Our exploration efforts will focus on establishing the continuation of the mica deposit towards the Northeast or Southwest.
Carbonatik is committed to responsible exploration and development, especially given the site's location in a reserved forest area. We will work closely with local authorities, communities, and environmental experts to ensure our activities are conducted in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Stay tuned for updates as we uncover the full potential of the Vavuniya Mica Sites and develop our expertise in mica extraction and processing.
